Mommy SOS

A dear friend from college called me a couple of days ago from way across the country with a dilemma that only another mom would understand: her son needed a new lovie. Not just any lovie, it was a little toy blankie that I had purchased for him before he entered this world two years ago. While nothing tragic had befallen the duck headed blankie, it was time to get a back-up duckie blankie. You see only a good mother would anticipate losing duckie blankie or leaving it at daycare. And a really good mommy would not want to risk getting caught during a breaking and entering to retrieve a lovie so her little boy could get to Dreamland.

I was so happy and touched that this small plush blankie became the boy's lovie. Who knew when I purchased it in Boston before meeting up with my friend in NYC that the little duckie would become such a prized possession. Well my friend asked where I bought said duckie blankie. Not wanting to let her down, I remembered seeing the line of blankies at a local maternity/baby store, so I told her I'd check on it. Luckily Village Maternity carried the duckie blankie, so off we went to purchase it and sent it Priority to the little man. If I needed the same done for Mia, I know my friend would come through. So enjoy, little L. your brand new duckie blankie as you bury your face into its newness.

As for Mia's lovie situation. I've been trying to push a pink Gund Spunky puppy on her. So far, she smiles when she hears it bark and at times shoves its ear into her mouth, but she's hardly cryng over it when she doesn't have it within arm's reach. As Papa observed, she seems more interested in these hard rings that link together and often falls asleep holding one. It seems rather cold and impersonal, but above all not cute. Guess I need to start accepting that I will not always like her choices in life.

For Anna, it was a blanket... for JJ, it's a yellow stuffed dog. They always have to have it when they sleep... oh well. Backup? Um... none. :D
